Support for traffic counts and simulations for the City of Brussels

To be able to carry out traffic-counting and microscopic traffic-simulation assignments quickly and efficiently, in response to the requests addressed to it, the Mobility Unit of the City of Brussels renewed, for the fifth consecutive year, its partnership with our team.

Each traffic-counting and/or traffic-simulation assignment is covered by a specific purchase order and requires responsiveness.

Location: City of Brussels
Client: City of Brussels
Date: 2020-2028
Partner: BRAT

Context

The geographical scope of these assignments, as well as the urban and geographical context, varies greatly.

The study area may range from 2 to 3 intersections counted during peak hours to counts at more than 78 locations, involving a team of 145 surveyors simultaneously.

In practice

Counts are generally carried out using staff on site, or otherwise by camera. They may cover motorised traffic, bicycles, non-motorised two-wheelers, or pedestrians.

These may be counts on road sections (recording entries and exits) or directional counts recording all or part of the movements at an intersection.

The counting assignment includes carrying out this task from A to Z: from site preparation, to recruiting and training staff, to on-site supervision, through to processing, analysing and interpreting the checked and validated results.

Results

The results provided (databases and a mapped analysis report) help inform the City’s thinking on development projects and support the monitoring of its circulation plans (Pentagon, school neighbourhoods, …).

Our in-depth knowledge of the area and the specificities of each of its neighbourhoods is an added value for a detailed analysis of the results reported through observations.
